Visitor Info

Sitting on the English Channel, Hythe’s charismatic and tranquil charm is now recognised by a growing number of summertime visitors. The Hythe Food and Drink Festival similarly attracts a great selection of local, national and international stalls to its idyllic location alongside the iconic Royal Military Canal.

The quality of the shopping experience is complimented by a range of entertainments for the whole family and an alfresco dining area, together with street foods and bars of true distinction.

Two live music stages together with the author’s tent, children’s entertainment and funfair rides are just some of the attractions that make this an event for the whole family.

From the author’s tent …

“For the fourth consecutive year, Hythe authors will be at the Authors’ Gazebo at the Hythe Food and Drink Festival, selling their books. There is, quite “literally,” something for everyone, from award-winning Young Adult fiction through to the Last Cat Sanctuary in Aleppo, with thrillers and picture books as well. We will be there every day. Have you  ever wanted to write but are not sure where to start? Look no further. Come and talk to Deborah Jones of Wealden Strand publishers and the writers from Folkestone Writing Group Write by the Sea. We can guide you through getting your book on amazon, turning your book into an audiobook and we can advise on editing and research too. Have a look too at the story anthologies we have produced together.

They say that anything can happen in the Authors’ Gazebo and that it usually does. This year will be no exception. Saturday 29th July is Dan Hawk Day. Be at the Gazebo at 12 noon, for the launch of Dan Hawk Psychic Detective, a novella written by Deborah Jones and adapted from the original screenplay (soon to be screened) by Ben Shockley, who plays the lead role in the film. There are a few things you should know about Dan. Following the death of his beloved wife in a shooting, Dan resigned from the police force and began writing, to great acclaim, a series of novels about a character called Mr Pumpkin Head. Unfortunately, somebody or something has been following his work too closely and his creation has come to terrifying life. At a book signing in Folkestone, Dan is recruited to help solve the murders…We are going to be joined by the actors in the film – a few of whom you may recognise.

We look forward to seeing you!”
