Visitor Info
As well as providing some of the best shopping in Suffolk, housing a number of A list national brands, the Arc is home to the Apex arts and music venue and some excellent food outlets.
With additional themed Christmas activities in the town centre, the Abby Gardens, the Apex and the Cathedral itself over four weeks this year, Bury St Edmunds is once again ready reaffirm its unique qualities as a destination for a memorable festive experience.
The town, originally called Beodericsworth, was built on a grid pattern by Abbot Baldwin around 1080. It is known for brewing and malting (Greene King brewery) and for a British Sugar processing factory, where Silver Spoon sugar is produced. The town is the cultural and retail centre for West Suffolk and tourism is a major part of the economy.
