WHAT’S ON & WHERE
This landlocked county in the centre of England takes its name from the city of Leicester (recorded in the Doomsday book 1086). Although it has a great heritage of Engineering companies – such as Triumph, it is most famous as the home of Red Leicester & Stilton Cheese along with the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie. Leicester city has a centre dedicated to the recent discovery of the body of King Richard III, the last of the Plantagenet kings (discovered under a once very ordinary car park). Twycross zoo, Watermead Country Park (boating and fishing) Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, Mallory Park Racing Circuit, are just a few places to visit along with many canals, castles, countryside parks and historic houses.
