This attractive market town building on the banks of the River Ouse dates back to well before the Doomsday Book. Known for centuries as one of the largest markets in Europe, St. Ives was a thriving hub for East Anglian trade.
The bridge across the Ouse is well worth a visit and is unusual both in its design and the fact it has a chapel in the middle which became home to the local Prior after the disillusion of the monasteries in 1537.
There are a number of interesting shops, including one of the best whisky shops in the country.
